On Sunday, February 2, 2014, Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare (FSLH) will host a free stroke support group presentation at noon in the Soggs Room at St. Luke’s Home in the Center for Rehabilitation and Continuing Care Services, 1650 Champlin Avenue, Utica.

Amanda Straney, PT, DPT, acute care physical and occupational therapy manager at FSLH, and Bethany Kleist, Faxton St. Luke’s Wellness Center coordinator, will discuss how to achieve overall wellness after a stroke through exercise as recommended by the American Stroke Association.

Straney and Kleist will demonstrate home exercise activities that can be done with or without a Thera-Band, a resistance exercise band, to support gains made in therapy.

FSLH is the area’s only designated Primary Stroke Center and is a recipient of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s 2013 Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award for excellence in care of stroke patients.
